RADIOLOGY
Weekday,
before 5pm: order via POE
Weekday,
after 5pm OR Weekend/Holidays (except for plain films): www.3rads.com OR dictation line 7-2489 (code
01234#) then enter patient ID# without check digit
PLAIN FILMS
During the
day, order through POE. You may also
want to check that it is truly ordered (5-6126). Films are processed and initially placed on a shelf in the Tower
Basement behind the Children’s X-Ray Waiting Room. They are then moved to Central Viewing (5-6751) on the Reading
Boards to be read by the radiologist.
After it has been read and results dictated, they will be placed on the
board corresponding to the patient’s floor.
Occasionally, portable films are taken to the 7th floor
developing room, located by the Halsted stairwell; ask the tech doing your
X-ray where it will go.
All the
films for MICU and CCU patients (including CCP beds) are located on the 7th
floor.
After 9:45
PM on weekdays and after 4:00 PM on the weekends, call the ED Radiology
(5-2176). You still have to officially
order the films through OrderNet, and you must also choose “overnight” or
“Stat” on the menu. The films are read
in the ED Radiology Room and will be sent to Central Viewing the following
morning; call the ER Censor (3-RADS) if you need help reading an X-ray after
hours.
CT, ULTRASOUND, GI STUDIES,
Call the
specific division to schedule and order the test through OrderNet (see JHH
NUMBERS for phone numbers). After 5 PM
or so, any emergent evening studies need to go through the ED Radiology Censor
first (5-2174 or 3-RADS or use the www.3rads.com
web-site).
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Call 5-4100
to schedule. V/Q scan, gastric emptying
scan, MUGA, stress thallium/persantine/sestimibi test, renal flow scan, tagged
red cell/bleeding scan, tagged white cell scan, liver-spleen scan, renal GFR
scans.
STAT FILMS
Call 5-6126
and place the order in Ordernet.
Finding the film after it has been taken becomes difficult on occasion,
especially at night. The film will be
taken by the tech to be developed on the 7th floor or in Tower, and
then will be taken by another tech to the Emergency Department Basement to be
read by the ER Censor at some point in the night. Then, the film will be taken from the ER to Central on the 1st
Floor.
MRI
5-4100. Call to schedule. Speak to a radiologist if you feel a scan is urgent and needs to
be done that day. Many patients will
require at least p.o. sedation, to be given before the patient leaves the
floor. If necessary, the patient may
require IV sedation, for which there is a set number of sedation time slots per
week. However, if these are booked and
you need a MRI right away, you may need to administer the sedation yourself and
then follow the “conscious sedation” protocol with physician and nurse
monitoring (i.e., you’re going for the ride, too).
ECHOCARDIOGRAMS
Order Transthoracic echocardiograms through ordernet
on ordernet floors. If you are on a
non-ordernet floor fill out the pink requisition and call 5-3231. Echo results can be obtained from the Echo
lab on Blalock 5 where cardiology fellows will review an Echo with you. TEEs need to be ordered through ordernet and
called in.
